Local Classes
Starting in the Fall of 2014 I will again be teaching my portrait series locally in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Academy of Fine Art studio in the Dome District on the 300 block of Puyallup Ave (just a few blocks north of the Tacoma Dome).
301 'A' Puyallup Ave. Tacoma, WA 98421
See the location on Google Maps HERE.
These are adult classes for students ages 18 and above. They are designed for the beginning to intermediate student, though many who believe they are advanced would probably benefit as well.
2014 Class Schedule
Portrait Study I (PS1) $475.00 (includes model fee) -- registration closed
Tuesdays 6-9 PM, Sept 9 - Nov 11 (ten weeks)
This is the first in a sequence of three classes which will give the student the tools to tackle that most daunting of subjects -- the human head. Rather than calling this a portrait class, I've opted to call it a portrait study class, as we will not be concerned with depicting the head in context of formal portraiture, but as a three dimensional form. In Portrait Study I, drawing materials will be our primary media. Once satisfactorily completed the student will have the option to participate in Portrait Study II (monochrome oil paint) and Portrait Study III (full color palette oil paint).
2015 Class Schedule
Portrait Study II (PS2) $475.00 (includes model fee) -- registration closed
Tuesdays 6-9 PM, Jan 6 - March 10 (ten weeks)
With satisfactory completion of Portrait Study I, or instructor approval, the student will learn to apply lessons learned in PS1 through the medium of monochrome oil paint. Paint handling and understanding value relationships will be the focus of this class.
Portrait Study III (PS3) $475.00 (includes model fee) -- registration closed
Tuesdays 6-9 PM, April 7 - June 9 (ten weeks)
With satisfactory completion of Portrait Study II, or instructor approval, the student will continue their understanding of the head form through full color palette oil paint. Paint mixing, basic color theory and refined paint handling will be the focus of this class.
